No one Wants a Sandwich That's All Bread and No Spread.

A Look at Non-Alcoholic Whisky

25 % of young adults (18-25) don’t drink. I have two friends who don’t drink. - I wasn’t talking about sandwiches earlier. Nobody can eat just plain bread.

When I was a bartender, the demand for non-alcoholic drinks surged. From a shallow rumble to a tidal wave of people asking, “Is there alcohol in that? - 0.5%, why is it called alcohol free!?!” Because that’s the same ABV as a ripe banana or a glass of orange juice, that’s why. That’s right 8 pints of orange juice contain the same amount of alcohol as a pint. So if you’re caught in a pinch, you can get drunk. But you know, sugar crash.

The most popular new beer in America last year was non-alcoholic, so maybe Huey Lewis & The News were right. It is in fact “hip to be square”.

So we’re in the age of no’s and low’s. If you rifled through the shelves of your local, you’ll probably struggle to find a non-alcoholic whisky amongst all the alcohol-free beers and gins. -why anyone is buying non-alcoholic gin and vodka I have no idea. Is it not just flavoured water for £30? What’s going on? And why can’t you get alcohol-free whisky?
