So, you’re planning your Scottish tour. On your way, you want to make sure you’re getting the full whisky experience. Maybe it’s the only reason you’re going in the first place?

It’s the home of Scotch whisky after all! Where it all began. Distillery tours are extremely popular in Scotland, and the idea for The Whisky Road was born from one. So we know what we’re talking about.

To help you on your way, we’ve created a guide for all the places to hit! This is based off our own experiences and extensive research, all designed to give you the most enjoyable, most insightful, and most malty time in the country!

Oban Distillery

For just £24, you can visit this distillery, home of the legendary Oban Whisky. For this price you get to see every inch of the building. This includes the still house, where you can marvel at two glorious copper stills - the foundation of their flavourful whisky.

On the way, you also get three drams of Oban whisky, and your knowledgeable guide will provide in-depth insights into the whisky-making process. Located on the West coast, this truly is a bargain and an unmissable experience for every whisky enthusiast!

The Pot Still

Hidden away in Glasgow is one of the most magnificent whisky bars that eyes can behold. With 700 different Scotch whiskies, you can guarantee you can try something new. Very much an experience for an old school whisky lover, looking to talk about all things whisky with knowledgeable staff and friendly locals.

The shelves, brimming with malty goodness

Honestly, it’s worth it for the view alone. Think about all the thousands of years and hard work that have made shelves like this possible. And now you get to try them all! With a range of flights available, alongside homemade soups and pies - what are you waiting for?

Macallan Distillery

Scotland does two things extremely well. Whisky and cows. So why not venture deep into the highlands and experience both? Macallan Distillery is another iconic distillery offering tours around its grounds, including their own personal herd of fluffy brown Highland cattle.

What this is not, is an experience for everyone’s budget. To enjoy the full Macallan Estate Experience (just one of their packages), you will be setting yourself back £3,000. So no, we haven’t tried this one ourselves. But if you want the full Scottish experience, and don’t mind breaking the bank, there’s nowhere better to learn about Speyside whisky than a trip to the legendary Macallan.

Hopefully you find your Scottish itinerary filling up by now. It’s time to return to Whisky heartland and embed yourself in its history. I’m sure they’re looking forward to seeing you!
